This is a state of grace This is a worth while fight Love is a ruthless game Unless you play it good and right Getting used to living in another place was never easy, and Kimmy was trying to make the best of it. Luckily, because of her father, she didn't have to share her apartment with a roommate. After her last experience, she never wanted to deal with a roommate again. She would've lived off campus, but she felt that she didn't know the area well enough to get around. Living on campus was easier, and her apartment was very nice. She didn't want to get into Greek life, as it would stress her out even more. Kimmy couldn't imagine living in a house with multiple females that all had the same personality. She was very content by herself.
Turning the last page of her book, she let out a content sigh finishing the last of her novel. Books were quite lovely, and they never judged her. They didn't know her secrets, and they didn't bully her. Glancing up at the clock, she sighed once more. Already twelve? She always lost track of time while reading, not that she minded. Reading was a great escape from reality, and it helped a lot. Kimmy pushed herself out of her love chair and onto her feet heading toward her room. She placed the book she was previously reading back into the shelf amongst a plethora of other books. What was she going to do for the rest of the day?
Glancing out her window she caught a glimpse of numerous buildings. How come she hadn’t visited the library- Probably because she was scared of more than half the population that attended Landcaster University? It was time to finally get over a little fear and in turn she would be granted books. She pulled out numerous articles of clothing and a pair of brown shoes. Simple, just like she liked it. She looked into the mirror, happy with her neutral tone and curled hair. Her makeup was light and almost nonexistent. She liked her true beauty to speak for itself, if there was any to begin with. Grabbing her keys and wallet with campus ID she made her way to the library.
The journey was rushed, and Kimmy walked with a nervous pace. She avoided eye contact with nearly everyone as she made her way toward the building. She could do this, or so she hoped. The building was just in sight as her feet hit the ground lightly and delicately. Her small frame maneuvered quickly into the building and up a few flight of stairs choosing to avoid the elevator. Kimmy didn't remember how many floors the building contained, so she chose to choose a random floor to get off on. Hesitatingly, she opened the door and peaked around the frame. No one in sight, the coast was clear. With a sigh of relief she entered the floor. There was a ‘hole’ in the center of the floor with a rail that allowed the students to see every floor clearly.
Kimmy leaned over the rail slightly, gulping as she glanced down toward the bottom. Aside from a suicidal drop, the library was gorgeous. Doing a 360 degree spin, a large smile was plastered on her face. Such a beautiful place filled with magical books for her to read. Picking an isle by random she walked down it. She was feeling that her random streak was being kind to her and so with a turn she pulled a random book from the shelf. A limited edition Ralph Waldo Emerson book was in her hands by random, and her eyes widened slightly. This school was proving to be more and more spectacular.

The library. Oh how Ryan loved the library. Not. He couldn’t sit still long enough to read an entire book no matter how good it was he always ended up getting hungry or having to pee in the middle of it and never coming back to it, because he got distracted by something. The T.V? Probably. Or food. Another one of the joys of living on his own in the real world, he had to cook for himself, and he was getting tired to ramen noodles already. There was only so many times you could eat those without craving something else, and of course he knew the basics. Eggs, which he had also gotten tired of real quick, pancakes, from a box weren’t that difficult. It seemed like everything that was good require time and effort he simply did not have.
So there was a million open boxes of cereal because he couldn’t have the same one over and over again, all were the sugary kind, were spread out on his counter at the moment since he didn’t feel like putting them away. There was also a couple of frozen pizza’s in the freezer, he really needed to go grocery shopping, and maybe look up some recipes. His mom always had good ones, and besides he really needed to talk to her anyway.
“Hey mom,” he said after about seven rings. She didn’t sound impressed that he was calling her, but he felt the need to try and get her to talk. She was after all his mother and he would not have been born without her. Eventually she ended up telling him that she was busy with work, and to just go to the library and look for a cook book or something, and gave him some names, which he wrote down on a napkin because he was too lazy to look for some real paper in his mess of a cluttered living room. The moment he got to the library he realized that he could have just as easily, used the internet to find the same stuff, but since he was already there he figured he might as well go look.
He hadn’t been to the library that many times before and he didn’t know where to even look, but he ended up in the section of encyclopedias at first, he knew that was wrong though and he wasn’t in the mood to hang around that section for long. He tried the next floor not sure what wonders would be up that flight of stairs, and eventually found what seemed to be a fiction section, he wasn’t sure how he ended up reading the back of a book, but he did. It was a book about vampires or something. He was reading the back as he walked along the rows of books. He never told anyone but he did enjoy fairy tales and mystical stuff. Vampires though, he’d have to think about that one.
He was about to turn around when he ran into a girl, “my bad,” he said before he turned around to see that she was actually really pretty. “Hello,” he said with a smirk when he could see her face.

When the days are cold And the cards all fold And the saints we see Are all made of gold Kimmy didn’t move from her position as she became entranced in the book held lightly in her hands. She flipped through the pages with ease as she had become quite gifted in speed reading. The words jumped off the page and just made complete sense to her. Humans on the other hand, she couldn’t quite understand them. Perhaps if she read a psychology book on the human mind she’d be a step closer to understanding why people could be so cruel to each other. They were all created equal, so how come she had been treated like a lower being with no feelings or respect?
Kimmy shook her head trying to rid her mind from thinking about the past. Right now she was at a new school with completely new people. She also didn’t have a roommate to worry about. With a deep breath she went back to reading her book. Kimmy wasn’t the typical book worm. She wasn’t weird with quirky interests. She simply loved knowledge and had a goal of educating children to being the best they could be. She wanted the children she taught to realize their dreams could be a reality if they tried hard enough. She wanted to protect them from the harsh and cruel world.
It wasn’t long before Kimmy was completely oblivious to the world around her as she stood in the isle reading her lovely book. It might’ve been smart to have taken a seat somewhere, but when she started reading nothing else registered in her mind. Suddenly there was a force to her side and she stumbled a few steps, her book flying in the air. A surprised gasp left her lips as her mind tried to react quickly to the situation. Thin hands grabbed around before eventually grabbing what she thought was a shelf. It didn’t matter because she was holding on for dear life. The bump wasn’t even that powerful, but Kimmy was small and frail, not to mention completely uncoordinated.
Kimmy let out a sigh of relief as she was still on her feet, and that itself was an accomplishment. She heard someone apologize. She didn’t even look at the person before responding,” It’s quite alright.” Her focus was on where the book had landed. She searched the ground quickly before finding it lying at the base of a person. She knelt down picking it up, still not registering this person. Finally standing up, the person greeted her. Looking up her eyes widened slightly. Whoa. Her mouth ran dry and she gulped. Standing in front of her was a real life boy. She had already made a fool out of herself in such a short amount of time.
She straightened quickly, fixing her articles of clothing. “It’s really my fault,” her eyes moved nervously about. Her eyes came to rest on the room, and after a quick examination to decide it was still in good condition. “I should be apologizing,” she nervously laughed,” I’m the klutz standing in the middle of the isle.” Her fingers nervously played with the corners of her book. She had never been in this situation. Was she even doing this right? She bit her lip softly, finally looking the boy in the eyes.

“Nah don’t bother, I don’t need apologies,” he shrugged. “ I’m sorry can’t go back in time and fix the mistake, or at least that’s what my dad always said.” He had grown up hearing that every time he apologized for everything, and even though it was the polite thing to do in a way his dad was right when he said that. Just because you said you were sorry didn’t fix anything, you still broke something, or made a mistake and unless you were a time traveler you couldn’t go back and fix it. The only way to make things better then was to make it better, just saying a simple I’m sorry wasn’t going to do anything, that was something else his dad always said, ‘Actions speak louder than words,’.
Ryan pulled his hat off and ran his finger through his hair pulling if back out of his face, and then placed it back on his head. “Are you ok though?” he asked her. This wasn’t the first time he had had one of these cliché meetings where he accidently bumped into someone. “People stand in the middle of the isle all the time, I shouldn’t be reading and trying to read at the same time,” he teased. “See this is why I don’t read much it always gets me into trouble.” That wasn’t necessarily true since he had to read for school. "This seems like a good book though,” he held up the book that he had been reading the back of so that she could see.
“I’m not sure how I feel about vampires though, the whole I’m want to kill you all the time but it’s ok because I love you,” he mocked, “seems really weird to me,” he shrugged. “It’s nice to meet you I’m Ryan by the way, my major is education for the deaf, well I think that’s the informal name,” he squinted his eyes. “Anyway, hi,” he held a hand out for her to shake.

So many stories of where I've been And how I got to where I am But these stories don't mean anything When you've got no one to tell them toKimmy was a little taken back from his initial response. It wasn’t that it was rude; it was just let than polite to her. She simply stood there like a gazelle in the presence of a lion as he spoke. “I see,” she stated as she mused over his father’s wisdom. It was true, an apology couldn’t reverse something that had happened or ever make it go away. However, her father too had his own sort of wisdom when it came to situations like this. He said he wouldn’t have survived his marriage if he hadn’t learned the importance of an apology. “An apology won’t fix a mistake, you’re right,” she looked up at him,” but it’s the first step in realizing you’ve made a mistake. A simple ‘I’m sorry’ takes ownership of your actions, and in turn shows that you care.”
Kimmy paused for a moment before blushing and looking down at her book completely embarrassed at her rambling. She figured he wouldn’t care about her bit of thought on it. She was after all just a random girl in the library. In truth, she longed to be able to talk to someone about her thoughts and opinions that didn’t have the same as her own. Philosophical debates about their takes on life, but that required getting to actually know someone. She watched as he removed his hat and messed with his hair, he smelled nice as well. It took her a moment to respond to his question regarding her state of being. “Yes, I’m fine,” a nervous laugh,” Thank you for asking.” It wasn’t very often that people asked how she was doing or if she was alright. It was quite nice.
She knew firsthand the dangers of reading and walking at the same time. She had run into her fair share of light poles and glass doors to last her a lifetime. She had become quite skilled at it though, using her peripheral vision to help her. Her eyes lit up slightly at the mention of him reading. It always delighted her when people read, especially when it was a boy. Interested, Kimmy glanced down at a book she had never read before. However, there was a human girl and a vampire male on the cover easily hinting to a romance of sorts. She was a romantic herself and had read her fair share of vampire romances. If done right they were quite enjoyable.
She laughed slightly as he mocked the idea of two separate species falling love. However, if two different things couldn’t come together to love each other, where would they be today without different strands and breeds of species? “It’s an acquired taste sometimes,” she said hinting toward the book. Normally she had a tough time speaking to strangers, but when it came to books it was easy. She could speak book. “Think of it less as black and white, and all shades of grey,” she said tucking her own book under her arm to speak with her hands. “A vampire has to overcome the greatest obstacle of all, his species’ own natural behavior that’s sewn into his DNA, all for love,” she smiled,” quite romantic.”
Shaking her head at her own embarrassing explanation, she watched as he introduced himself. She was excited to hear he too was majoring in education, though for the hearing impaired. It delighted her when others cared about children and their education, especially for those who needed a little extra due to disabilities. Kimmy figured she had to be the most awkward and weird person he’d ever met on campus. Perhaps he’d never talk to her again after this awkward meeting, but he was polite and that’s all she cared about. Anyone who was remotely nice to her was easily trusted. “It’s nice to meet you, Ryan,” She smiled reaching for his hand before shaking it firmly,” I’m Kimmy.” There, he had her name. He could easily make a quick farewell and never see her again, or stay for god knows what reason. “I’m an education major here too- elementary education.” With another nervous smile she bit her lip pulling her book out from her arm and back into her hands.

“I guess that’s true,” he shrugged. Maybe she was right; she did seem to be a smart cookie. When she started talking about vampires, he nodded, listening to what she had to say. It was a Romeo and Juliet type thing, he remembered reading that in class one time and not understanding why Romeo didn’t just take Juliet with her when he got kicked out of the city, since no one even knew about them. He never understood the whole concept of that story other than the fact that the two couldn’t be together and the fell in love.
Ryan however, did not really believe in love stories or romances, because when did they ever happen in real life. “I guess, I still think vampires are a little creepy, but maybe that’s just me,” what he didn’t understand about the world of vampires who stalked you and werewolf’s that could change whenever they wanted he still thought that mythical creatures were cool but some of them made no sense, and he wasn’t going to get in an argument with the girl, so he decided to keep that inside. “Oh that’s hi Kimmy,” he said. “It’s nice to meet another education major, “ he realized that he didn’t seem like he was interested in education by the way he acted.
He could have been one of those cool teachers who never really taught but let the kids do whatever they wanted and passed everyone and was friends with students, but he wasn’t into those types they always seemed to creepy. What kind of drown man wanted to be friends with teenagers? Well if you were still a kid inside then he could see it, but wasn’t it time to grow up when you had a career? He had never thought of it that way when he was in high school, but recently whenever he thought about how he was going to make it in the world of education he realized how weird that was.
“We have something in common already,” he said with a grin on his face. “I like kids which is probably weird, I actually work at Disney land, you know where all the magic happens,” he winked. Even though that was never really meant to be anything more the friendly until he decided to add that wink in there, because he thought to himself, why not? “I’m Prince Eric,” he said with a triumphant grin as if it was a big deal.

I can do this once more No man can keep me together Been broken since I was born Kimmy could tell he wasn’t interested in her explanations of books at all. It didn’t discourage her because it happened quite often. Perhaps if she had been talking about something he was interested in this conversation would be moving along better. She normally had the best conversations with her father since he was a professor back in Baltimore. Having highly educated parents made for great company when discussing certain topics. She always loved hearing of her father’s adventures in the hospital when he was a heart surgeon before he retired to teach. The success stories were always her favorite kind of stories. She hoped that’s what she would have at the end of her career.
Ryan seemed doubtful of her ‘romantic’ opinion, and Kimmy couldn’t blame him. “They’re not my go to genre of book either.” She had read millions of books, and none of the love stories she had read had ever happened to her. She had yet to be swept off her feet and fall head over heels. It was probably because she was so awkward. It was apparent as she stood before she beautiful human being without a clue as to what she was supposed to do. Boys never really conversed with her before, and even her books couldn’t help her now. He seemed not as interested in his major as she had been. Maybe he was just excited on the inside? Or his reasoning behind it wasn’t quite like hers.
Teaching kids had always been self-rewarding. Their smiles lifted her spirits and seeing them finally understand something as simple as why the sky was blue brought happiness to her hear. Children were the key to unlocking the future; they were the future. She wanted to touch their hearts and make them better people. She didn’t just want to educate them with knowledge but also with people skills. She wanted to lay them a solid foundation that they could easily build on when heading to middle or high school. She wanted to see them grow up into beautiful people who would change the world. Happiness was helping others.
They did have something in common, which isn’t something she experienced often. Working with kids weird? Never. Her heart skipped a beat at the wink. No one had ever ‘winked’ at her before. A small crimson blush stained her cheeks as she bit her lip trying to recover. They were no longer talking about books, and she was suddenly not in her element anymore. This wasn’t going to be pretty. “Disney Land?” she glanced out the window as it trying to see it. “I’ve never been there,” she laughed slightly at her disappointing childhood,” Lame childhood, right?” It wasn’t that her family couldn’t go, it was that they didn’t know if she could handle it with her attacks.
He seemed extremely proud in his role at work, and rightfully so. As she looked at him with green eyes, she totally saw him as a prince charming enough so to make her mouth dry. “I’ve never been in the presence of royalty,” she joked softly. Was she supposed to tell him where she worked, or was that weird? Were they sharing information or was she about to make this awkward? Kimmy cursed her lack of knowledge when it came to talking to the opposite sex, or even meeting new people in general. “I work at the Moka Café off campus,” she told him, fingers fiddling with her book. It seemed fitting that a quiet girl like her worked at a small coffee shop that was never really busy with many regulars.

“Yeah it’s really fun actually,” he wanted to say that he would take her some time but he didn’t know her well enough for that and it would have been awkward thing to say. He also wanted to say something else about the magic of it but he didn’t want to seem anymore creepy then he already did. He noticed that she was blushing, she might have been shy, maybe too shy for that type of thing. It didn’t really matter as to why because he wasn’t going to say it anyway. He did think she was pretty, and maybe he would have to get to know her so that he could say those types of things. He tried to push that thought away though.
“Oh yeah six year olds love me,” it was surprising the amount of little girls that thought he was amazing, but that wasn’t the crowd he wanted to attract. “Most of them like Ariel more, and I don’t think she likes me enough to share.” He chuckled. He didn’t want to say that Ariel hated him because that would be something weird to say to a new person. He found that the most difficult part of his job though, the fact that he had to act all lovey to her. He was pretty sure that the feeling of dislike was mutual though, so it was probably hard for her too. It was easy to say that his job was easy, because it looked easy. It really wasn’t though.
“So does that mean if I make a first impression I get some half off coffee?” he joked. He hadn’t been drinking coffee recently, even though it was the only thing that kept him going during the school year. So even if that was a joke it would have been nice if the answer was yes. He wasn’t quite sure that this impression was good, and maybe that was because he had bumped into her, and thought that her love stories were stupid. He didn’t say that though. It didn’t really matter though because maybe he would never talk to her again, even though they both had Majors in the same subject area.

If I talk real slowly, if I try real hard To make my point dear, that you have my heart Here I go, I'll tell you what you already know Here I go, I'll tell you what you already know Here was no doubt in her mind that an amusement park full of children was fun. Normally areas with large masses of people who cause Kimmy to get anxious, but not when it came to children. “It sounds like children love it.” She imagined the hope and wonders in their eyes as they saw all their favorite princes and princesses come to life. Seeing children happy was more than enough to convince Kimmy that not all amusement parks were awful. She wondered if Ryan thought she was super awkward and weird. Did he feel obliged to keep this conversation going? Kimmy bit her lip and again fidgeted with the book in her hands. She didn’t want to feel like a burden to him if he actually had better things to do.
She laughed softly at the mention of kids loving him. Of course the kids would like the Disney princess more, it was basically in their natural instincts to. She adored all the Disney movies, and of course she wouldn’t tell anyone that she actually spent most of her in her room watching those movies and reading. There was a reason she wasn’t exactly considered a cool kid. “Princess Belle was always my favorite princess,” hand gripped her book,” because she loved reading.” It surprised her how a Disney princess could be loved for her reading habit, but Kimmy wasn’t. Then again, she also didn’t exactly have the personality of a Disney princess.
Would he even care about where she worked? It wasn’t the magic kingdom, but it was quiet and the right fit for her. It wasn’t a franchise or popular place where people flocked to. The coffee was amazing, and the sweet treats were to die for. She tilted her head slightly at the mention of a first impression, his was much better than her impression on him. He was actually the nicest guy she had ever so far. “If I’m working then yes, you can get a discount,” she laughed, reassuring him. That would mean she’d see him again and hopefully be able to redeem herself from her awkwardness today. Then again, they both were education majors, so perhaps they’d see each other in that building.
