HAYES, BRANDON A.
Brandon Avery hayes Twenty-two Caucasian unemployed Straight Kinesiology I AWAKE TO FIND NO PEACE OF MIND, HEIGHT: 6'3 WEIGHT: 205 APPEARANCE: Brandon could almost be described as the typical all-American, red-blooded male. Thick, dark dirty blonde hair sits on top of his somewhat square head. There have been times he gets lazy with it, letting it grow out, though he tends towards keeping it short and coiffed. He has small, deep-set, bright blue eyes above a wide, fairly strong nose, and thin pink lips. A strong jawline is oftentimes covered in light to medium stubble, Brandon preferring the just slightly unkempt look over completely clean-shaven. Standing at about 6’3, he’s pretty tall, and has a muscular build. For the most part, Brandon prefers relaxed attire, usually leaning towards some combination of work-out clothes, t-shirts, jeans, and cargo shorts. I SAID HOW DO YOU LIVE AS A FUGITIVE, LIKES:

OVERALL: Spending much of the last few years trying to escape his past, Brandon is extremely determined to make a better life for himself. Growing up, he was pretty well-off, and took things for granted. He got into a lot of messes for it, developing an impulsive, undisciplined attitude. He never really thought things through, and generally just did whatever the hell he wanted. Eventually, an addictive personality found him in even more trouble that he never bothered to fight off. Two sessions of rehab came with an eventual change in character. Brandon has gained a resolve to fight his rash and willful nature, and although it still occasionally shows through, he stays optimistic. In an effort to truly move on from his past self, Brandon has become self-conscious, in a nearly constant battle to keep himself in check. Brandon stumbled upon another way to pull himself into check during his second stay in a treatment center, one of the friends he had made there helping lead him to God. The possibility of leading a happier, spiritual life acts as a backing for his transformation of character. He still slips up on a fairly regular basis, and some people might even say he’s just a classic example of a hypocritical Christian, but he truly feels like he’s trying to better himself. DOWN HERE WHERE I CANNOT SEE CLEAR, HISTORY: Brandon grew up in a small suburb just outside of Seattle, Washington. He lived with both of his parents, a younger sister, a dog – they were a fairly typical example of a normal nuclear family. There was some extended family – aunts, uncles, cousins – but for the most part it was just the four of them on their own. There was always money, or at least as far as Brandon was aware. He grew up getting what he needed and then some. When he finally made it into high school, he was sort of your traditional jock. Quarterback of the football team, tended to slack academically, and loved to party. He might have even made it somewhere with football, had his habits not messed it up for him. Caught up in the life of partying, drinking, smoking, having sex… it was only a matter of time before something happened. One night early in his senior year, acting on an impulse, he drove home at a ridiculous level of intoxication. He hit another car. No one was injured – in fact he’d only been going about five miles-an-hour. The collision happened when he decided he could make a right turn at the same time another vehicle passed through the intersection. A stupid mistake, and one that ended with him getting arrested for DWI. During the court proceedings, it came up that Brandon was suffering from alcoholism, and had been for at least a few years. Only seventeen at the time, his parents forced him into a treatment center, despite being in school at the time. They just wanted him to get better, so he stayed in treatment for a month. He got a little bit out of the process, but really didn’t care to change at that point. His time out of school threw him off track, and he fell behind. Pressured by his parents, he managed to finish in the summer. The stress of getting his diploma sent him back to drinking, and now eighteen, he didn’t have to go through rehab if he didn’t want to. Another year later found him living by himself in a rundown apartment, just barely scraping by. Eventually life hit him too hard, and he came to the bitter realization that he had no one to blame but himself. Brandon checked himself back into the treatment center with the help of his parents, and spent the next nine months trying to transform his life in every possible way. He made some friends during his time there, one in particular standing apart from the rest and managing to help lead Brandon to God. Before he’d even made it out of rehab, he was baptized. Able to leave with a new view on life and another reason to fight, he began to grow hopeful of his future. Since he’d gotten out, a lot more time was spent in self-reflection. He knew he was impulsive, rash, undisciplined. He had trouble taking anything in moderation, and was far too prone to addictions – still stuck with a dependence on cigarettes even. But he knew he’d made it farther than he could have ever previously expected. Next on Brandon's list was to go back to school - he'd spent some time working and knew things would be easier if he earned his degree. Until then, he's aware that he'll have to keep up a modicum of self-control. Saying he would stay away from alcohol completely would be a lie - it was college, there were bound to be parties and he couldn't just spend the whole time in his dorm, could he? It would just be a problem of mind over matter. Something that he's never been the best at. Managing to get acceptance into Landcaster was a bit tough for him, but now that he's in, he hopes things turn out well. |
